He has brought the curtain down on a 12-year career at Signal Iduna Park, although he was unable to give himself a fairytale ending in the Champions League final, as the Bundesliga side lost to Real Madrid at Wembley.

Sancho, who played for Dortmund between 2017 and 2021 before leaving for Manchester United, returned on loan in 2023/24 and has now issued a heartfelt farewell to a player he regards as a role model.

Writing on Instagram, Sancho said: "Farewell to a BVB Legend and My Big Brother. @marcinho11 as you start your next chapter I just want to say thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You took me under your wing and I learned so much from you both on and off the pitch. I am forever grateful for everything you taught me and it was an honour to play with you. I wish you and your family all the best for the future, see you soon brother!"
